Three challenging squeezes and a deep, wet pitch guard some magnificent

Went down Strans Gill recently with Mike Bottomley and Simon Beck to take lots of photos. Flood debris had to be removed from the top of Hope Pitch and a large block had to be pulled back along the crawl into the chamber below Faith Pitch. Otherwise it was a fairly straightforward trip. Guide book rope lengths were bob on and it's a brilliant description. We had no real problems with any of the squeezes although admittedly we are all on the thin side of skinny!

The low dam protecting the entrance to Strans Gill Pot has been breached in a flood. The narrow entrance rift is now blocked with cobbles and silt (about 2m down) and there is no access to the cave. The dam has been re-built, but removing the blockage could be a difficult task.

The entrance to Strans Gill was unblocked on 24th July. It's now "wide open" and ready for business.

Strans Gill Pot has been reopened. The entrance pitch (‘Faith’) had been blocked with flood debris and corrugated iron that had fallen into the constriction from the surface. Getting the debris out of the tight rift required some interesting acrobatics! Note that permission from Yockenthwaite Farm to descend the pot is unlikely since the owners National Trust apparently won’t allow it.
