A classic tight pothole and a worthy challenge for average-sized cavers.

I made the usual enquiries prior to visiting Marble Sink but I only got grimaces and tales of premature turnarounds. I expected it to be tough, but not as tough as it proved to be. Ian Cummins and I are both smaller than average, but we still thought the description of Marble Sink in NFTFH is very understated about the difficulties. I'm certainly not complaining because it was one of the most satisfying trips I've ever done, but I haven't ached like this since Quaking Pot! A 'brutal struggle' were my first reflective words on reaching the surface. This cave is definitely in the same league as Hammer Pot and Quaking Pot. Given the small number of short pitches, I'll probably opt for a ladder only assault next time!

We had a trip down Marble Sink recently. The rope lengths, rigging details and descriptions proved to be very accurate, although maybe the difficulties are slightly understated. The concise description proved instrumental in our first time success as I'm sure that had we been armed with only the Northern Caves description we would have taken more than one attempt to bottom this fantastic pot. Thanks for a brilliant trip, it was almost like having an experienced guide there with us.
