MAGNETOMETER POT

A long and very satisfying expedition to the final sumps in the Earthworm Extensions and Kamikaze Passage.

A fine 5.5 hour return trip to Kamikaze Sump taking advantage of the settled weather and low water conditions. As two of our group of five had been to Caton Hall before, progress to this point was quick. From here, the NFTFH description was followed carefully along the awkwardly sculptured Rough Crawl to the Labour Exchange, after which route finding is pretty straightforward through some superb sections of clean-washed stream passage. Kamikaze Passage itself is a bit awkward, but not particularly long. The duck is best negotiated on your back and, at around 6m, is longer than most and a neoprene hood is essential. A body-sized crawl leads on with one awkward corner for the longer-legged and plenty of sharp rock. The crawl ends abruptly at the top of Kamikaze Pitch where care is required due to loose rock. A wetsuit or neofleece is strongly recommended for this trip, and it's quite clear from the nature of the passages (particularly below Caton Hall) that a settled weather forecast is essential. One of the finest caves in the Dales in my opinion.
