The indisputable caving gem on Fountains Fell with a deeply satisfying
miscellany of pitches, climbs, traverses and squeezes.

We had a fun club trip down Gingling Hole (Big Pitch Route) at the end of June. It's pretty steady stuff really, although we didn't try all the free-climbing options. The Second Pitch is an easy free climb, but this and all the other underground pitches had fixed ropes. They are a bit of a nuisance if you are rigging your own ropes. There is a thread for a deviation on the 'Ammered 'Ole, but if you bridge up and down the pitch, you can avoid rubbing the rope. Looking into the Big Pitch sump I wished I had the knowledge and gear to plop in and dive through - sounds amazing at the other end.
